How to negotiate an employment contract

An employment contract is far more than just an agreed upon salary and vacation clause.

An Employment contract contains all the terms and conditions upon which you’ll become employed.

When it comes to negotiating an employment contract you should be aware of your bargaining power. If you’re being poached by another company, you can negotiate a better contract.

Your salary is usually your top concern when reviewing a contract. In these (Covid 19) times it may also be security, work environment. It seems like a risky move to ask for more money once you’ve been made an offer, but you shouldn’t shy away from asking for what you believe you deserve, even in Covid times.

There are a number of considerations to bear in mind before signing, however. Read your employment contract carefully to avoid any hidden pitfalls.
